Anita Kunz traveled from Toronto for the show's opening and spoke to a receptive audience about her past work for the New Yorker and Rolling Stone and her more recent personal work. The male nudes evoked a lot of interest as the audience identified the famous men depicted. Anita explained she had done them for fun for a Gay Pride event in Toronto.Visible behind us are several acrylic and watercolor works on paper from a zoomorphic series entitled "Chimera" which exemplify her impeccable technique. These works are not large , reflecting her need in the past to work small and fast as she was so in demand.
First Friday always brings a crowd of visitors to the gallery. Many students from VCU make the rounds and often find inspiration in the works on view.
