After 10 years as a commercial illustrator extraordinaire, Sterling Clinton Hundley has created a dramatic series of oil paintings for this debut Solo Show.  Taking as his title "emergent" (emergence being defined in science as the process of complex systems that are composed of lesser parts) Hundley initiates his creative process with a diminutive monotype (3" x 3") and develops a sequence of progessively larger and complex works.  Each painting is constructed on a grid of square panels and inspired by the square that preceded it.  The "chaos" of the original image is controlled by the artist's skill at creating and manipulating the visual medium and the imposition of the grid. "I navigate the gauntlet of abstraction to arrive just this side of representational."
