Design (derived from the Italian disegno, meaning “a drawing”) has become identified in recent years with “high design” which is regarded as a new category of art with its own discerning collectors. Designed objects in this genre are celebrated for the qualities that closely relate them to contemporary art : their complexity of conception and expression and their rarity, with “functionality” being their only obvious difference.
Innate taste, a love of beauty and a strong artisanal tradition have long placed Italy in the forefront of high design. Furniture, glassware, ceramics (the decorative arts of the 20th century) manifest boldly individualistic and innovative forms sometimes accompanied by an edgy chic.
In participation with Maurice Beane Studios we present a number of these important Italian designers: Franco Albini,Afra and Tobia Scarpa,Osvaldo Borsani,Aldo Tura, Michele De Lucchi , Ico Parisi,Piero Fornasetti, Murano glass- makers , Venini, Flavio Poli etc. ,Ugo Lucerni, Matteo Thun.
