Tom McCormack is a musician and artist who creates works on metal collected from industrial buildings that are being redeveloped. Some of the pieces he salvages become the “canvases” for his etchings of these sites. The large sheets of steel that were used for this show, come from a historic peanut/cotton/tobacco warehouse in Petersburg, Virginia, where they were used to protect the floors from the wear and tear of the wheels of factory carts.
Tom says ,”It’s not uncommon to see a footprint rusted into the plates from a worker who moved the goods through the buildings.”
McCormack’s acid etchings capture the dramatic and desolate beauty of these deserted factories.
