Hulburt remains true to the tools of his early working days by using wood and house paint as his basic materials. In his hands, these elements are transfigured into brilliantly colored, delicately executed storyboards recording the images, thoughts and feelings that filter through his days. He paints the joyful and tender aspects of existence – love, music and nature – without descending into sentimentality. On the last Friday( February 25), Hulburt and his sister, Cat Hulburt, will perform the Huckiddy Puppet Theater at the gallery at 7 p.m. The performance will be accompanied by guest musicians.
